Where can I buy vintage lamps in Zwolle?
At VAUT! in Zwolle, you will find a large and ever-changing collection of original vintage lighting. From pendant lamps and table lamps to wall lamps and floor lamps, primarily from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
I select the lamps myself and pay great attention to the condition in which they eventually enter the showroom. Many items are first extensively cleaned, polished, technically checked, and restored where necessary.
Which brands and designers does VAUT! sell?
The collection is constantly changing and consists of Dutch, Danish, and other European design, among other things.
At VAUT!, you may come across lighting and furniture from brands and designers such as Gispen, Raak, Dijkstra, Anvia, Louis Poulsen, Fritz Hansen, Pastoe, Hala, Bent Karlby, Ligne Roset, Lyfa, and Hans J. Wegner.
In addition, I also select unique vintage pieces whose designer or manufacturer is less well-known. As far as I am concerned, a good design does not always need to bear a famous name.
What is the condition of the vintage lamps from VAUT!?
I aim to present every vintage lamp as beautifully as possible, without erasing its character. Lamps are thoroughly cleaned, and materials such as aluminum, brass, chrome, and lacquer are carefully restored or polished wherever possible.
That does not mean every trace of decades of use should disappear. A beautiful patina can be an integral part of the design. My starting point is therefore not to simply make a lamp look 'like new,' but to determine for each lamp how its design is best showcased.
The result should be well-maintained, technically sound, and, above all, truly beautiful again.
Are the vintage lamps from VAUT! technically checked?
Yes. In addition to the appearance, I pay a great deal of attention to the technical condition. Wiring, sockets, plugs, switches, and other electrical components are checked and replaced where necessary.
In doing so, I use new parts where it is technically sensible, without unnecessarily compromising the original design.
Does VAUT! restore vintage lamps?
Yes. Restoration of vintage lighting is an important part of what I do. Depending on the lamp, this can range from careful cleaning and polishing to repairing or replacing parts and completely renewing the wiring.
Especially with unique designer lighting, restoration can make a big difference. A dull aluminum shade, weathered metal, or outdated wiring does not have to mean the end of a good lamp.
I examine each object to see what is necessary and appropriate, with the goal of letting the design shine as beautifully as possible once again.
Can I have my own vintage lamp restored by VAUT!?
Yes. In addition to restoring my own collection, I also restore vintage lamps on behalf of clients.
This could be a lamp that has been in the family for years, but also high-quality designer lighting from well-known manufacturers and designers. Think of special Dutch, Danish, and other European designer lamps where the original appearance, materials, and details are important.
Depending on the lamp, I can, among other things, renew the electrics, replace wiring, address sockets and switches, clean and polish metal parts, and restore the overall appearance.
Does VAUT! also restore valuable designer lamps?
Yes. A careful approach is especially important for high-quality and rare vintage lighting. Improper handling can compromise both the appearance and value of an original designer lamp.
That is why I first look at the maker, age, materials used, original finish, and current condition. I then determine which interventions are appropriate.
The goal is not to simply replace everything or refinish it entirely. I preserve original parts and finishes wherever possible and desirable, while worn or unsafe technical components can be carefully renewed.
Do you have a special vintage lamp by Raak, Gispen, Anvia, Dijkstra, Louis Poulsen, Lyfa, or another renowned manufacturer? Please feel free to get in touch to discuss the possibilities.
Can VAUT! rewire an old lamp?
Yes. After decades, old wiring can become brittle, damaged, or simply in need of replacement. Even if a lamp still lights up, that does not tell the whole story about the condition of the electrical components.
I can perform a technical check on vintage lighting and, where necessary, provide new wiring, a suitable socket, switch, plug, or other electrical parts.
How much does it cost to restore a vintage lamp?
That depends heavily on the lamp and the work involved. Simply replacing the wiring is quite different from an extensive restoration, where a lamp has to be taken apart, components need to be repaired, and various materials need to be refinished or polished.
Therefore, please send a few clear photos of the lamp along with a brief description of what is wrong or what you would like to have done. I will then be able to assess what is possible.
Does VAUT! also sell vintage furniture?
Yes. In addition to lighting, at VAUT! you will find a curated collection of vintage furniture and interior items. The focus is on unique design, primarily from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, including Dutch and Scandinavian design
Can I buy vintage furniture and lamps online?
Yes. Part of the current collection can be viewed and ordered via the VAUT! webshop. Because many pieces are unique, for many products the following applies: once sold, it's truly gone.
Would you rather see an item in person first? Then you are welcome to visit the showroom in Zwolle every Saturday.
Can I reserve a product?
Have you seen something that you would like to have or would like to view first? Then please contact me. Because almost all vintage items are unique, I can tell you what is possible.
Does VAUT! ship vintage lamps and furniture?
Many items can be shipped. Whether shipping is possible and which shipping method is suitable depends on the size, weight, and fragility of the object.
For fragile lighting and larger pieces of furniture, I will look for a suitable and safe solution for each individual item.
Can I pick up a purchase in Zwolle?
Yes. Items purchased online can be collected from VAUT! in Zwolle by arrangement. This is often a great option, especially for larger or fragile vintage pieces.
Is every vintage item at VAUT! unique?
Almost always. VAUT! does not work with large stocks of the same product, but with individual vintage finds. As a result, the collection is constantly changing.
If you see something that you are excited about, the chances are slim that the exact same item will be there next month.
What kind of vintage is VAUT! looking for?
I mainly select vintage items from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, with a strong preference for well-designed lighting, furniture, and interior pieces. Dutch and Scandinavian design play an important role in this.
Well-known designers are interesting, but ultimately I look primarily at form, material, quality, and character.
Why buy vintage at VAUT!?
VAUT! is all about design worth preserving. I source unique vintage pieces and pay great attention to how they re-enter the showroom: clean, well-maintained, beautifully restored where possible, and in good working order.
In doing so, I try not to erase an object's history. It is precisely the combination of beautiful design, quality materials, and decades of history that makes vintage so interesting.
